Imphal, February 25 2022:
AICC senior observer Jairam Ramesh has stated that Chief Minister N Biren Singh is stooping to a new low by using the Indian Made Foreign Liquor card as he is aware of the BJP's impending defeat in the State Assembly election.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhavan today, Jairam Ramesh continued that the Chief Minister is now in the departure lounge waiting for the BJP aircraft to take off.
Maintaining that the campaigning for the first phase of Assembly election will end by 4 pm tomorrow, the Congress leader said that N Biren assuring to let IMFL stores be opened in the State if BJP retains power is nothing but an insult to the masses.
The BJP has not mentioned anything about lifting prohibition in its election manifesto and as such the narration of the Chief Minister displays the deceptive tactics of the party, Jairam Ramesh said and questioned if the topmost priority of the BJP is to open liquor stores.
The State has managed to fully vaccinate only 48 percent of the eligible population here against COVID-19, the AICC leader maintained.
The youth require jobs and the farmers need Minimum Support Price of farm produce but the BJP is committed to open liquor stores, he said and added that the utterance of such words by the Chief Minister reflects that the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister Home Minister were a flop.
Urging the Chief Minister to withdraw his 'disastrous' statement and apologise to the people of Manipur, Jairam Ramesh asserted that the people are unaware of the BJP's priority though party Central leaders have been visiting the State regularly, the AICC observer claimed that Congress, on the other hand, is committed to establish Ima Market in all the districts of Manipur, ensure one third reservation for women in all Government jobs and establish more reporting centres for crime against women.
MPCC vice president Kh Debabrata stated that Governments in the past too attempted to legalize IMFL in Manipur but withdrew it as the people, especially women objected to it obvious reasons.
