5 involved in Wangoo blast arrested

Imphal, February 25 2022:
Five men said to be members of the proscribed PREPAK and directly involved in the February 20 bomb blast at Wangoo have been arrested by Kakching district police along with bomb materials.
Two personnel of ITBP detailed for election duty at Wangoo were injured in the said bomb attack.
The arrested PREPAK members are identified as Okram Manitomba alias Ango Meitei of Wangoo Mamang Sabal Nurathel Leikai, Sorokhaibam Goroba alias Ngangba (19) of Pangaltabi Makha Leikai, Sorokhaibam Arbind (26) of Wangoo Mamang Sabal Leikai, Thongam Singhajit (20) of Wangoo Mamang Sabal Leikai and Irengbam Geetchandra (53) of Wangoo Mamang Sabal.
Police recovered three detonators and three batteries from their possession.
According to a police source, based on a specific information, a large team of Kakching police led by additional SP (Ops) Chongtham Bijoy and commando OC inspector Md Abbas Khan conducted operation at Wangoo Nurathel area from 3am on Friday and nabbed all the five PREPAK members from their respective houses.
During initial questioning, police came to know that all the five were directly involved in February 20 bomb attack on ITBP personnel at Wangoo, IED blast at Kakching Khunou on February 25 and IED blast at Wangoo Lamkhai on February 25 morning.
Two of the five arrested men had attained training on IED making and explosion from PREPAK cadres during January this year at Tamu in Myanmar and communicated frequently with Myanmar based PREPAK cadres.
