5 held for IED blast

Imphal, February 25 2022:
A commando team of Kakching police arrested 5 suspected cadres of PREPAK allegedly involved in the IED blast at Wangoo on February 20 wherein two personnel of ITBP were injured.
Superintendent of Police Kakching, Shrey Vats said this at a press conference and added that the police had undertaken several efforts to catch the people involved in the IED explosion.
Based on credible intelligence input, a Commando Unit led by Binoy Chongtham, Additional SP carried out a massive search operation today morning in Wangoo Nurathel area, he added.
The five persons who were allegedly involved in the IED blast on Feb 20 were arrested from the area.
The arrested persons were identified as Okram Manitomba alias Ango Meitei (20) of Wangoo Mamang Sabal Nurathel Leikai; Sorokhaibam Goroba Singh alias Ngangba (19) of Pangantabi Makha Leikai; Sorokhaibam Arbin Singh (26) of Wangoo Mamang Sabal ; Thongam Singhajit Meitei (20) resident of Wangoo Mamang Sabal and Irengbam Gitchandra (53) of Wangoo Mamang Sabal.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that they were involved in three IED explosions, one the February 20 IED attack on ITBP personnel, the IED blast on January 26 at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai near Uyok Bridge as well as IED blast at Wangoo Lamkhai area in early hours of January 26 .
They also revealed that two of them had gone to Moreh/Tamu in January and received one day training in handling IED and that they were in touch with PREPAK cadres from Myanmar and had carried out the explosions on their directives.
Arrested persons also revealed that there was a plan for another IED blast but the location was not disclosed to them.
The Commando team also recovered 3 detonators and 3 batteries for remote control from their possession.
Arrested persons along with seized items will be handed over to the Wangoo police station for taking up necessary legal action and for further investigation.
