Kakching, February 25 2022:
CLP leader and former chief minister Okram Ibobi has said that public should not allow return of the dictatorial BJP led government which took the state into darker period in its five years of rule.
Addressing the gathering at one-day Intellectual Programme organised as part of election campaign of Indian National Congress candidate from Kakching assembly candidate Kshetrimayum Kennedy at Sora Nongsha Bazar on Friday, O Ibobi called upon people to be beware of BJP saying it is a communal party guided by the aim of One Nation, One Religion, One Community'.
Let's defeat such party in the forthcoming election in the state and pave way for their loss in parliamentary election of 2024 as well, he exhorted.
Ibobi mentioned that during Congress rule, it appointed a minister for minority welfare along with providing 4 per cent reservation for them.
But the BJP-led government has relegated all the policies and programmes initiated by Congress.
If Congress comes to power, it will provide the benefits rightfully deserved by minorities along with ensuring reservation in higher education, he assured.
On the other hand, INC candidate Ksh Kennedy stated that Muslim women of the AC and Sora in particular are leaving behind the shadow of 'Parda' (veil) and he will focus on creating financial opportunities for them.
The programme was also attended by former union minister Salman Khiirshid, AICC leader Raksak, Kakching Municipal Council former chairperson Moirangthem Inakhunbi Devi and others.
