Imphal, February 25 2022:
BJP has not mentioned the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the poll manifesto as the party has already fulfilled its promise of making AFSPA obsolete as no case of fake encounters have happened in the State during the last 5 years.
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson L Basanta made the remark while speaking to media persons at BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek today and added that BJP had promised in the vision document released prior to 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, 2017 that the party will make sure that AFSPA is irrelevant in the State if elected to power, and it has done exactly the same.
The BJP's Vision Document of 2017 also makes no mention of the Army Act, except assuring that all pending corruption and fake encounter cases will be investigated within one month of forming Government.
'All found guilty will be punished per law', assured the Vision Document of 2017 .
Going on the offensive against its partner in Government NPP, Basanta alleged that the party had always worked against BJP and didn't perform the role of a partner.
He added that it was very unfortunate that the NPP was always engaged in raising allegations and working against the BJP despite being part of the coalition Government.
He added that their true nature started showing during the Lok Sabha election 2019 when they openly supported the CPI candidate Dr M Nara and extended support to the Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha election.
Maintaining that the BJP had to enter an alliance with the NPP due to unavoidable circumstances, which had posed several hindrances in policy making for the welfare of the State, L Basanta clarified that BJP will secure majority in the upcoming election and form the Government on its own without the support of any other party.
