Pre-poll violence continues, 6 hurt

Imphal, February 25 2022:
Six persons were injured in yet another incident of pre-poll violence prior to 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election at Keirao Makting Mayai Leikai under the jurisdiction of Irilbung police around midnight yesterday.
The injured persons have been identified as Md Shahid Ali (42), Md Zakir Hussain (27), Md Jaheriddin (45), Md Altaf (19), Md Reas Khan (28) and Md Feroz Khan (40).The six are all workers of National People's Party candidate Md Nasiruddin Khan @ Boboy of Keirao AC.
They suffered injuries on their head, arm, leg and chest.
However, none of them had any serious injuries.
The six were allegedly assaulted by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Md Islamuddin @ MI Khan along with his escort and workers.
One of the injured persons, Md Shahid Ali, was allegedly hit on the head with the butt of a firearm by an escort of the NCP candidate.
Md Shahid Ali was treated at the local Primary Health Centre for his head injury and received around ten stitches.
Speaking at a press conference, Zakir Hussain, one of the injured men, shared that the six of them were heading home after a night watch with the local meira paibis when MI Khan's vehicle blocked their path.
Zakir Hussain stated that they were brutally assaulted and later kept at MI Khan's home.
They were released with the help of Irilbung police but Zakir Hussain claimed that the NCP candidate and his workers made him sign a blank sheet of paper before he was released.
Zakir Hussain strongly condemned the incident and urged the authorities concerned to take up immediate action against MI Khan.
