Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has launched India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI) in Manipur today on the occasion of the observance of World Heart Day held at Kangmong Langoljam Community Hall in Konthoujam Assembly Constituency.
The initiative was launched by the Government of Manipur in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), World Health Organization and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and RTSL (technical partner) .
On the occasion, he said heart is one of the most important organs of the human body.
A body is identified whether dead or alive through the heart beat of the person.
"Our hearts can be taken care through regular exercises and by eating good and healthy food.
Keeping tension and stress away also helps keep our heart healthy and strong," he added.
He said that the Government has introduced many health schemes at the Centre and State level.
Health schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) have been introduced with the objective to avail health benefits to all.
Ranjan stated that the role being played by the Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHAs in the society need to be encouraged.
Anganwadi workers and helpers work at the grassroot level and take the flagship schemes to the people.
They should be facilitated, he said.
The Minister also said that for bringing about a better and sound health care system, focus should be given mainly to the primary level healthcare services.
The Government has chalked out strategies to regulate and check whether or not the funds sanctioned for Government projects are utilized in the right way.
Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Director Health Service, Manipur said the Government of Manipur adopted IHCI to strengthen the treatment component of the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (NPCDCS) which has set a target of 25% reduction in high blood pressure by 2025 .
Director National Health Mission Manipur Dr Somorjit Ningombam, Joint Director Health Dr Y Premchandra and other officials of Health Department and National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur also attended the programme.
Later, the Health Minister also visited a Free Heart Camp which was organized at the venue as a part of the observance and interacted with the locals.
Ranjan also inspected the existing infrastructure of Health and Wellness Centre, Kangmong.
Notably, the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) was launched in Manipur in December 2015 covering all districts as an opportunistic NCD (Hypertension, Diabetes, Breast Cancer, Oral Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Cardiovascular diseases) screening programme in all health centres.
Milestones of the programme include launching of population based screening of NCD by using CPHC-HWC App, establishment of day care chemotherapy centres in 9 districts and establishment of Cardiac Care Unit and High Dependency Unit at District Hospital Churachandpur.
The India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI) launched will cover two districts-Imphal West and Thoubal in the 1st phase.
All other districts will be covered in phase wise manner.
