Imphal, October 17 2022:
CPI Manipur State Council has demanded the state government to convene a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss the drought situation that the state is facing.
CPI Khundrakpam Local Council along with local clubs and Meira Paibi organisations staged a sit-in protest at Santhei community hall on Sunday demanding the government to survey drought-affected farmlands and to provide Rs 30,000 as compensation per Sangam.
Speaking on the occasion, CPI Manipur State Council secretary in-charge RK Amusana pointed out paddy farms in most parts of the state are facing drought situation.
Around 80 per cent of the paddy farms in the state are slated to face crop failure resulting in loss of investment and hard labour of the farmers.
It is unfortunate for the government to turn a blind eye over the situation, he said.
Amusana then demanded the government to convene a special session of the state assembly and take up initiatives for providing compensation to the farmers.
He also suggested that the government frame policies so as t-o make the state self-sufficient in terms of food production.
