"Golden era of India has started", said Union minister of state for education Dr Subhas Sarkar during his address at the 9th Convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur, here, on Monday.
The Union minister said that with the concerted efforts of the present government under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is attaining self-reliance.
The golden era of the country has started under the dynamic leaders, he said, while telling the students who attended the convocation, "You will not be a job seeker but a job provider".
He explained that National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to strengthen the new learning paradigm by adopting new education technologies or developing available in-house skills.
The knowledge acquired by the students will help them to establish values as well as contribute to the nation and the world's development.
The Union minister asserted that the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre has been giving special attention to the Act East Policy in order to strengthen Indo-Pacific strategic relations, regional political stability and economic exchanges with Myanmar and other members of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The policy will open up various opportunities to the students of the region, particularly Manipur as they would have the opportunity to invest their innovative ideas in exploring available resources of the region, he said and urged the students who got the degree on completion of the course of study at the institute (NIT) to utilise their knowledge of science and technology for the service of the country and the glory of the institute.
"You should be always endeavouring to be honest in the discharge of your duty as an engineer or a scientist," he told the students.
At the convocation, a total of 261 degrees were awarded to 27 Phd, 61 MTech, 28 MSc and 172 Btech students from different courses.
The Union minister also presented the Chairman Gold Medal for B Tech for 2022 to Hidam Boris, a student of the department of electrical engineering of the institute who secured highest mark among all the students of his batch.
Apart from the union minister, the convocation was also attended by TIFAC New Delhi executive director Dr Pradeep Kumar Shrivastav and NIAM, Ranchi director Prof Parttha Protim Chattopadhaya as dignitaries on the dais.
Earlier, director Prof Goutam Sutradhar of the institute presented a report on the activities of the institute.
He said that the institute is consistently improving its NIRF ranking.
The institute has been ranked 108th among the technical institutes in the country.
The director said that the institute, though still in its initial stages of growth, has made rapid strides in the past ten years.
The number of students has also increased considerably.
"All efforts are also being made to provide the best research equipment and facilities," he added.
