Kamjong road figures in NEC achievement project

The 37.33 km long road from Kamjong to Konkang Thana via Pilong in Kamjong district has figured among achievement programmes of the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the road will be highlighted during the golden jubilee celebration of the council.
The NEC secretariat has intimated the state government in this regard and accordingly sent a letter to additional chief engineer (III) of Public Works Department, Manipur.
The ongoing rehabilitation and upgrade of the Kamjong-Konkang Thana road with NEC funding under the North Eastern Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) will be showcased in the golden jubilee celebra tion of NEC on attainment of 50 years of its existence.
While informing that central authorities are planning to inaugurate the project soon, the letter asked relevant authorities to complete and keep it ready for the inauguration.
Rehabilitation and upgradation work of the Kamjong-Konkang Thana road began in February, 2020 by the Bhartia Infra Projects Limited (BIPL) with PWD as implementing agency.
Work for the project commenced with Rs 107.8 crore funding from the NEC and construction of the entire road length is nearing full completion.
The only part left for the project is construction of a 50-metre span super-structure bridge near Konkang Thana but an official of BIPL informed that materials for the bridge have arrived and the company is planning to complete the structure within this month.
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Naga Zingso Lupheng (TNZL) secretary Vareho Keishing said that Kamjong-Konkang Iliana road was in pitiable condition few years back but it has been fully developed and black-topped.
He thanked NEC, state PWD, Manipur government and BIPL for developing the road at very fast pace.
Vareho Keishing told media persons that TNZL is the apex body of Eastern Tangkhul Naga Headmen Association comprising representatives of 70 villages.
Until some years back, the road was not pliable during rainy season and villagers faced immense inconvenience particularly during medical emergency but there are no such problems today, he said and thanked MLA Ram Muivah for his efforts in sanctioning fund for the road while he was the NEC secretary.
Vareho Keishing also thanked BIPL managing director N Ibochouba for developing inter-village roads and playgrounds at various villages situated along the road.
Mention may be made here that Kamjong-Konkang Thana will be an important road after Imphal-Moreh road when business activities under Act East Policy commences and Kamjong will be evolve into a thriving business hub for Indo-Myanmar trade.
