Skill development training programme kicks off

A skill development training programme of value addition on fruits, vegetables and spices kicked off today at the College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University (CAU) .
The training programme which will be conducted till October 22 is being organised by the Department of Agricultural and Farmer Welfare, Central Agricultural University, Government of India and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Department Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
The inaugural function of the training programme was attended by CAU, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Anupam Mishra; Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited Vice-chairman Pukhrambam Somojit and APEDA Guwahati, Business Development Manager, Saju Adhikari among others.

Speaking in connection with the programme, Dr Anupam Mishra appealed to the upcoming youths to make the best of locally available fruits and vegetables thereby generating income out of it so that they become self-reliant.
The youths should strive to be an employer rather than wasting time waiting for Government jobs, he maintained.
He also expressed that the College of Food Technology in the State will help in alleviating the problems faced by the aspiring students who wish to study food technology.
He further appealed to all to come up with measures to preserve the fruits and vegetables to avoid wastage so as to contribute in enhancing the State's economy.
