KKL demands probe against YAS director

While alleging that Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS) director Phulen Meitei has not distributed fund for Khelo India programme to 16 districts despite withdraw al of the same, Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) general secretary Ngamkheingakpa Luwang has demanded an enquiry against YAS director and suspension of the official.
Addressing media persons on Monday at its office at Jupiter Yambem Centre, here, Ngamkheingakpa said that the programmes to be taken up under Khelo India programme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop players from the grassroots level could not be implemented in the state as fund released for the same are yet to be distributed to district officials concerned.
YAS director Phulen Meitei has been asked to disclose details of Khelo India programmes and fund released accordingly but none of his replies were satisfactory.
Though the YAS director claimed to have allocated Khelo India fund released on July 14, 2020 to 16 districts, not a single rupee of the fund has been distributed till date, he claimed and demanded immediate suspension of YAS director.
According to Ngamkheingakpa Luwang, the YAS director appointed a boxing coach in Churachandpur district without considering the eligibility criteria while the coach for canoeing and kayaking was appointed instead of selecting rowing players in Bishnupur district.
It was like selecting football players instead of selecting boxing players, he said, adding that the matter has been apprised to Prime Minister through a memorandum.
