Imphal, October 17 2022:
The 41st Annual State Exhibition of Art was kicked off today at Manipur State Art Gallery located at Palace Compound.
Notably, the exhibition has been launched in connection with the golden jubilee celebration of Manipur State Kala Academy (MSKA) and includes the works of 39 artists including two art pieces that bagged awards last year.
It will conclude on October 22 .
The event was attended by M Joy, Commissioner, Art & Culture and Yumnam Nabachandra, former Principal, Imphal Art College as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest, M Joy shared that the State Government had recruited the necessary staff for MSKA which will ensure the Academy's smooth functioning in the long term.
He also urged people to preserve the artwork of artists of the State for the benefit of future generations.
Yumnam Nabachandra recalled how during the reign of King Bheigyachandra, sculptures for Shri Shri Govindaji Temple were chiselled out of jackfruit trees.
This shows that activities related to sculptures and art began very early in the State, he said.
Addressing the work of painters, he opined that around 90% of painters have opted for acrylic painting and highlighted the declining interest in oil paintings.
