Imphal, October 17 2022:
The 15th Fortnight Barrier Free Campaign was inaugurated by Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation on the theme of 'All the ways possible' at the Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat, here, on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Foundation chairman Dr Sapam Jasowanta observed that stigma and discrimination against differently-abled people have lessened over the years after the government enacted the Rights of Disability Act to ensure equal opportunity for differently-abled people and allow them to freely contribute to the society as capable citizens.
Stating that the programme was organised with the aim of maintaining the importance of an accessible environment, Dr Jasowanta urged the people to forward video clips with the slogan 'Make accessible environment' to the CM, ministers and MLAs as a form of encouraging the differently-abled people.
He then said that the concept of a "Barrier free" campaign should not be limited to a specific group of people.
The inaugural function was also attended by Directorate of Health Services additional director (PH) Y Gopalkrishna.
