Imphal, October 17 2022:
The 24th congress of Communist Party of India (CPI) held in Vijayawada has resolved to fight any threat to the boundary of Manipur at the national level as part of its national level movement for different issues.
CPI Manipur State Council's former secretary L Sotinkumar placed the issue pertaining to the boundary of the state during the national congress of the party.
He told the gathering how the fencing work along the Indo-Myanmar border is threatening the boundary of the state and how the people of the state have been demanding for a proper demarcation.
Several spot enquiries have been conducted at the disputed sites but no positive initiatives have been taken up so far.
Instead, new border pillars are being erected and fencing constructed inside the original boundary line, he said.
Sotinkumar also highlighted about deprivation of rights to contest Lok Sabha election by people living under eight assembly constituencies in Thoubal and Kakching districts, and mentioned about the demand for a separate Lok Sabha seat for the eight ACs.
He also brought up the demand for restoring special category status for the state.
The proposals were discussed by a 30-member team consisting of one representative from each state including party leaders like D Raja and Atulkumar Anjan among others.
