Imphal, August 25 2022:
Apart from facing shortage of Urea supply, farmers of Maklang, Ngairangbam and Awang Khunou in Imphal West district are staring at possible crop failure as around 50 'pari' of the paddy fields have developed cracks due to scanty rainfall.
Addressing a press meet at Maklang on Thursday, Bihu Loukon Star Shape & Land Protected Committee president Khuraijam Ram Singh informed that about 20 pari of paddy fields under Ngairangbam Gram panchayat, 15 pari in Maklang GP and 10 pari in Awang Khunou GP area are in dire need for irrigation water.
While stating that the main source of income of these farmers depend on the yearly harvest of paddy crop, he urged agriculture and horticulture departments to look into the matter immediately and provide necessary assistance.
Stating that no harvest is expected this year, he also appealed to the paddy field owners to exempt the yearly tax at least for this year.
Ram also held the agriculture department accountable for non-availability of Urea fertilizers when the farmers need them the most.
