14 CSOs hails resolution on NRC

Imphal, September 03 2026: The 14 CSOs Kangleipak has welcomed the State Assembly's resolution to update the NRC before census 2027 .

At the KSA office at Khuyathong today, the organisation's convenor Nahakpam Shanta said, "The 14 CSOs Kangleipak approached the Opposition party urging it to raise the census issue as it was not included in the Business Hour discussion" .

Shanta said he appreciates the Opposition party for introducing the issue by raising an adjournment motion.

The association is also grateful to the Chief Minister for allowing the issue to be discussed and paving way for passing a resolution, he added.

By passing the resolution, the State Assembly has clearly exhibited the collective will and aspiration to update the NRC, Shanta said.

While the resolution to update NRC was cleared, MLA Awangbow Newmai's remark in the House regarding the base year was unfortunate, he said.

The matter regarding the base year should be discussed.

Representatives of the Government of Manipur, the Government of India and all the stakeholders must sit together and decide the year, he said.
