Kangpokpi, September 03 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has strongly hit back at the recent representation submitted by a collective of Naga legislators to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Terming the allegations against Kuki-Zo communities and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen "unfounded", KIM warned that such rhetoric could further destabilise the fragile security situation in Manipur.

In a counter-memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister, the Kuki apex body said the representation by the Naga legislators contained "escalating rhetoric, unverified accusations and targeted character assassination" and could undermine efforts towards peace and political dialogue in the violence-hit state.

The KIM's counterrepresentation placed its response under five major points and reiterated its demand for a separate constitutional arrangement for the Kuki-Zo people.

Rejecting allegations against Nemcha Kipgen, KIM termed it as "unfounded allegations" without evidence due process or any judicial finding.

Regarding the Naga legislators' demand for immediate abrogation of Suspension of Operations (SoO), KIM described the SoO framework as a legitimate peace mechanism intended to maintain ground rules, enforce ceasefire protocols and facilitate political negotiations.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur also urged the Centre to expedite the political process for the Kuki-Zo people by granting a Union Territory with a legislature, which it said would ensure their security, dignity and self-governance.

It may be mentioned that the counter-memorandum was signed by Kuki Inpi Manipur president Ch Ajang Khongsai and general secretary Paotinthang Lupheng.
