PLMPAM observes 37th foundation day

The 37th foundation day of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) was observed at Khoyathong Pukhri Mapal community hall today.
The foundation day observance ceremony was attended by Longjam Memchoubi, president, PLMPAM; Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, president, AMUCO and Yumkhaibam Kunjarani Chanu, president All Manipur Womens' Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), a statement has informed.
Speaking on the occasion, Thongam Apabi Leima, general secretary, PLMPAM stated that the association was established on August 25, 1985 with the objective of safeguarding the people oppressed by security forces under draconian black laws."Since its inception, the association has been at forefront in combating crime against women, drug abuse and other social issues, she said.
Pheiroijam Nando Luwang also addressed the gathering and lauded the contribution of 'meira paibis' to society.
Stating that meira paibis are the backbone of Manipuri society, he added that the current scenario of the State would be very different without their invaluable contribution.
Longjam Memchoubi resolved to stand for the people of Manipur during the event stating that scores of other elderly meira paibis share the same sentiment.
She also paid homage to PLMPAM in commemoration of the 37th year of its establishment.
