At least 306 people have lost their lives and 49 others remain missing in the ongoing Manipur crisis that began on May 3, 2023, according to Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
The Minister shared these figures during question hour on the second day of the State Assembly session while responding to a query from Konthoujam AC MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan.
Govindas said that 99 missing persons cases were reported since May 3, 2023, of which the bodies of 34 have been found.
He further said that the Govt has paid ex-gratia compensation to the families of those killed in the crisis.

Relief assistance for missing persons is also under consideration, he said.
Responding to a query raised by Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit regarding the bomb attack at Tronglaobi that killed two sleeping siblings, Govindas stated that one Sonminthang Palal Thadou from Molnom Village in Churachandpur has been arrested in connection with the case and the investigation remains ongoing.
Stating that the arrested individual has confessed to the charges, the Minister added that any political motive behind the blast remains unverified as the investigation is ongoing.
In a supplementary question, K Ranjit asked whether the suspect was a key member of the UKNA .
Govindas responded that the Government has not received an official report from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirming his affiliation to UKNA but there is speculation among the public.
Saying that a missing person who remains untra-ceable for seven years is legally presumed dead, he stated that the State Cabinet will meet this month to consider relaxing these rules to provide relief assistance to the families of missing persons given the extraordinary situation in Manipur.
In a supplementary question, Dr Ranjan noted that last rites have already been performed for many of the missing individuals and urged the Govt to provide financial relief to the affected families.
