Hand over governance to NIA: Ranjit

Taking strong exception to the alleged laxity shown by the State Government on the pretext that all major cases of the protracted violence have been handed over the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Congress MLA K Ranjit today suggested the Manipur Legislative Assembly to hand over the State's governance to the NIA .
Replying to the Opposition MLA, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam claimed that the State Government did not sit idle just because the cases have been handed over to the NIA .
During the question hour today, Ranjit asked how many accused have been arrested in connection with the murder of six Konsakhul villagers after they were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village on May 13, 2026 .
Govindas replied that four accused have been arrested so far and the case is being investigated by the NIA .
The Home Minister said that how many people were involved in the murder and who they are will be known only after the investigation is completed.
The four persons arrested so far have named four other accused and security agencies are searching these individuals, Govindas said.
The State Government has no concrete information on whether KNF(P) was involved in abducting and killing the six Naga hostages or not, the Home Minister said.
Following reports that one police personnel was involved in the abduction of the six Konsakhul villages, the police personnel was arrested and questioned.
However, it was found that the policeman was at the police station on the day of the abduction.
As he was found innocent, he was released, Govindas said.
Claiming that there is no question of the State Government going lax because the cases have been handed over to the NIA, the Home Minister assured that the Government will make every effort to see that justice is done at the earliest.
Reacting to MLA Ranjit's suggestion to hand over the State's governance to the NIA, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand remarked that the same suggestion sounded off-putting.
Contrary to the allegations made by several sections that the chief of Leilon Vaiphei village was involved in the abduction of the six Nagas, NIA investigation found that the village chief was at Guwahati since seven days before the incident, Khemchand said.
K Ranjit said that justice may never be done if the Government just stands by awaiting completion of investigation by NIA .
Even though some suspects were apprehended in connection with the disappearance/abduction of two students -- Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit, on July 6, 2023, no justice has been delivered to the victim families till date, Ranjit pointed out.
The mutilated bodies of the six Naga hostages who were murdered in the most chilling manner are still lying in JNIMS morgue.
Meanwhile, the UNC has launched an indefinite blockade from yesterday.
The situation remains very critical, Ranjit pointed out.
He then asked the Government if there is any room for presenting status reports of NIA investigations to the public from time to time instead of waiting for completion of these investigations.
Citing a letter sent by Naga MLAs including Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho to Union Home Minister Amit Shah which alleged that the Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen's husband and KNF(P) leader were involved in the murder of the six Naga hostages, Ranjit asked whether the Chief Minister and the Home Minister cannot recommend an NIA investigation to the Union Home Minister against Nemcha Kipgen and her husband.
