Demand for NRC before Census continues

In line with the movement demanding NRC before Census, a protest rally was staged today by members of six indigenous communities residing in Loktak Project.
The rally was carried out from Patel Bazar of Loktak Project under the banner NRC updation before Census, No NRC No Census.
NRC first next census, No IDP settlement No Census supporting the movement of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD).
A large number of people belonging to indigenous communities namely Chiru, Aimol, Kom, Rongmei, Meitei Pangal and Meitei took part in the rally which was jointly organized by Yelhoumi Loktak Project Area Apunba Ching Tam, Ningthoukhong Protection Committee and Ching Tam Liching Lup Ningthoukhong.
The rallyists tried to march towards the residence of Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam at Ningthoukhong to submit a memorandum.
However, Bishnupur Police blocked the rally at Loktak Project main gate and a scuffle broke out.
Later, the rallyists and Police agreed upon the selection of six representatives to submit the memorandum to the Home Minister.
Since the Home Minister is attending the Assembly session, the memorandum was handed to BJP Bishnupur Mandal general secretary RK Pholmani entrusting him to submit it to the Home Minister.
The rally culminated at Loktak Project after passing through Ningthoukhong Keithel and Shantipur under Ningthoukhong Municipal Council.
On the other hand, a rally was also carried out at Kumbi Assembly Constituency jointly organized by Kumbi Bazar Development Committee, KIYDO Club, Youth for Kumbi and Kumbi Ima Apunba demanding the passing of NRC Bill during the Assembly session, to protect the integrity of indigenous people, deportation of illegal immigrants from Manipur and no Census before IDP resettlement.
Various slogans were also raised during the rally.
Meanwhile, voicing the demands of JFD, the women vendors of Moirang Keithel staged a protest by closing the market today.
Moirang Bazar Keithel Phambi Ima Lup organized the protest demonstration under the slogan No NRC Updation before Census urging the implementation of resolution of NRC before Census passed in the Assembly session.
The women protestors used placards which read No NRC no Census, save indigenous people and save Manipur and raised similar slogans.
