Handloom Expo begins at Silchar

Imphal, March 28 2022: A two-week State Handloom Expo organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisan CS Ltd under the National Handloom Development Programme began from Monday at Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Silchar.

The inaugural function of the Expo which is being held under the aegis of Development Commissioner for Handloom, Union Ministry of Textiles was attended by Handloom and Textiles Department, Assam assistant director Harilal Singh as chief guest and Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisan CS Ltd vice president S Bhubol as president, while Manipur Benevolent Society, Silchar president S Kamala Kanta, Manipur Development Council, Silchar member Y Satyendra and former minister A Biren were present as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Harilal Singh noted that the expo is going to provide a big opportunity for weavers to showcase their products as well as a chance for buyers to purchase the traditional hand woven clothes.
