Imphal, August 30 2026:
Former MLA of Sagolband AC Dr Khwairakpam Loken has said people are suffering due to irresponsibility of MLAs who are supposed to be people's representatives.
He was speaking at a sit-in protest held today at Kwakeithel Thingom Leikai Community Hall organised by Sagolband Block Congress Committee under the slogan "No NRC update, No Census".
Dr Loken said there is a need for the Government to adopt a resolution supporting people's demand of no Census without NRC update and a resolution against Census should be taken in the upcoming Assembly session.
He said people have been living without peace for more than three years.
Both State and Central Governments' actions are not liked by people and the Government is trying to pacify people temporarily by sending few MLAs to Delhi.
No tribunal committee has been formed to identify infiltrators and powers under State purview are not being used, he added.
In another protest, residents of Thongju Pheijaleitong staged a sit-in at Pheijaleitong Lampak today supporting JFD's call for "No NRC, No Census".
The protest was jointly organised by Students' Welfare Committee members, Apunba Pheijaleitong Meira Paibi and residents of four localities.
JFD convenor Jitendra Ningomba also spoke on the demand.
Placards reading No NRC No Census, Restore Peace and Normalcy, Resettlement of IDP, Free Movement No Buffer Zone, Protect National Highways, Unite Manipur, Save Manipur were displayed at the protest sites.
