Nationwide strike starts

Imphal, March 28 2022:
The first day of the two days Nationwide general strike called by the joint platform of the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) starting today was also observed by the Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions Manipur in the State.
The first day witnessed total general strikes in banks, BSNL, LIC, Post Offices where the employees staged sit-ins at their respective offices, said a statement issued by the Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions Manipur.
State Government offices also saw very less attendance.
Scheme workers including ASHA, Anganwadi and mid-day meal workers also participated in the strike.
The unorganised sector workers including construction workers and rural workers also participated in the general strike, added the statement.
Meanwhile Manipur State Council All India Youth Federation (MSC AIYF) has extended support to the ongoing two days Nationwide general strike which started today.
In a statement issued today MSC AIYF said AIYF has called the nNationwide strike raising 6 demands including enactment of Bhagat Singh National Employment Guarantee Act (BNEGA); controlling price hike of essential commodities including petrol, cooking gas and LPG; giving legal status to Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural products; abolishment of all anti-worker labour codes and contract labour system; filling up of 50 lakhs vacancies in Government and public sector and providing of Rs 15,000/- month to unemployed youth as jobless allowance.
