Imphal, March 28 2022:
A team of CPI Manipur State Council led by assis tant secretary M Joykumar Luwang inspected fresh digging of the High-Level Canal of Loktak Lift Irrigation in Konthoujam area in Imphal West district on Monday.
According to a statement of CPI Manipur State Council, the CPI team led by Joykumar and assisted by branch secretaries made spot enquiry.
Farmers of Konthoujam AC were happy when fresh digging of the High Level Canal of Loktak Lift Irrigation started and hoped of getting irrigation water from Loktak during the lean season though such attempt around few decades back was worthless.
However, close examination of the fresh digging found out that the canal would not be bene facial to farmers and would even create more problem for them as all concrete drainbore (Uku), which served as irrigation water carrier earlier, have been removed now.
Accordingly, northern side of the canal would not be able to get water at all while the western side of the canal would have no road, the statement said and appealed to government and authority concerned to reconstruct all the removed culverts before onset of rainy season.
