Imphal, March 28 2022:
Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak has spoken out against the non-inclusion of Manipuri language in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and demanded the Language Department, Manipur University and the State administration to issue a clarification in this regard.
In a statement, WAMA Kangleipak shared that a meeting was convened in this regard at the head office of the organisation at Tera which was chaired by M Naokhomba Meitei, president WAMA Kangleipak.
If the authorities concerned fail to issue a clarification, then the organisation will not stand by idly, WAMA Kangleipak stated.
The organisation also questioned why Manipuri language was not included in major exams of the country.
The statement further urged to modify the wording in the Manipur Official Language Act, 1979 which maintains that "Manipuri Language means Meiteilon written in Bengali script" and replace it with "written in Meitei Mayek" .
WAMA Kangleipak added that the relevant authorities must be held accountable if the people of the State launch agitation due to the failure of the authorities concerned to take up appropriate timely action in this regard.
