The Public Works Department (PWD) has informed that strict actions will be taken up against individuals who illegally occupy the Right of Way (RoW) along National Highways and other important roads.
A public notice in this regard was issued today signed by Kh Temba Singh, Chief Engineer, PWD which added that the department had discussed the congestion and inconvenience caused to the general public due to parking of generator sets, machines/equipment, condemned vehicles, construction materials in RoW and has taken the decision to take up legal action against such individuals.
The notice added that illegal occupation of the RoW shall be treated as an offence punishable by a fine of upto Rs 200/cubic metre/day for construction materials and Rs 200/square metre/day for temporary structure and equipment and if the concerned individuals fail to clear the RoW within 15 days from the date of issue of this notice, they can face imprisonment of upto 90 days and confiscation of the materials and clearance by the department for suitable method of disposal.
