Imphal, March 28 2022:
State bound oil tankers, which left Khatkhati, Assam on March 25, would be arriving here on Tuesday via National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam).
With the oil tankers arriving on Tuesday, there will be no shortage of fuel in the state.
However, bandh in Assam is likely to affect transportation of fuel and other essential commodities.
A source said that there is stock of petroleum fuel for four days in the government oil depot and the stock capacity will improve to 10 days after the arrival of the oil tankers on Tuesday.
Most of the fuel pumps in the state remained closed on Sunday and Monday due to holiday and country-wide general strike called by trade unions respectively but is not related with shortage of fuel, the source said.
It further stated that the major issue that the state would be facing during the SAPO bandh would be the travel time taken by oil tankers.
Oil tankers, which left Imphal for Assam via NH 37, will take around seven days to return here.
People involved in the task have expressed the need for security escorts for safe passage of the tankers with at least three to and fro trips in a week to ensure adequate fuel supply.
In the meantime, the bandh called by Assam Motor Workers' Union in Assam is likely to affect transportation of fuel and other commodities into the state.
The two-day bandh has been called by the union to register protest against heavy penalty and tax levied by Assam government on commercial vehicles.
All Assam Cab Operators' Association, an affiliate member of All India Road Transport Workers' Federation, is also supporting the bandh.
