Imphal, March 28 2022:
The recent initiatives taken up to make high level canal of Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) functional passing through Konthoujam Assembly may add more woes to the farmers rather than solving their problems.
Expressing concern on the above matter, Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI), Manipur State Council in a press release said that a number of culverts, drainage system etc through which the canal passes are in a dilapidated state and it would not be able to provide proper irrigation to the fields of the area.
To take stock of the situation, a team of MSC/CPI led by M Joykumar Luwang, Assistant Secretary, MSC/CPI along with the branch secretaries inspected the area today afternoon and collected reports and made video recordings of the findings.
The farmers while narrating their problems to the team appealed to the authorities concerned to start constructing culverts, proper channels etc for efficient functioning of the high level canals of LLI in the constituency and to ensure that the surrounding fields receive the required irrigation facilities for large scale production.
The farmers sought the attention of the Government authorities concerned to start the work before the onset of the sowing season which will begin from May-June.
It may be noted that the high level canal of LLI has been lying defunct for decades, added the release.
