Senapati, August 29 2026: The mortal remains of the four Naga civilians killed in a deadly ambush by Kuki militants along IT Road between Makui Ashang and Makui Thanamba village on August 27, 2026 were laid to rest at Chawangkining today.

Meanwhile, MLA Awangbow Newmai has appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen to tell her community to be human, not animals.

Wisobou Charenamai, Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, Mariakdibou Wijunamai and Anil Wijunamai were killed in the deadly ambush.

IT Road ambush victims laid to rest

Before their mortal remains were laid to rest, the Joint Tribes Council, Manipur organised a condolence service at Chawangkining village under the aegis of the UNC .

During the condolence service, MLA Awangbow Newmai read out condolence messages from Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and MLA Khashim Vashum.

Awangbow Newmai appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen to tell her community to be human, not animals and to live as Christians.

Awangbow Newmai who is also the president of the Naga People's Front (NPF) stated that they will not leave the people alone.

Condoling the loss, Awangbow said he does not have enough words to express his sorrow over the loss but added that the deaths of the four brothers will not go in vain.

One of the family members of the victims asked the State Govt and the Central Govt why tear gas and bullets were fired upon Nagas when Nagas staged any protest or agitation whereas security forces could not stop any agitation of the Kukis.

Notably, villagers of Makui village could not come to the funeral and burial due to security reasons even though three of the victims belonged to Makui village.

MK Winning, Kilonser cum convenor, Political Affairs Committee, Sub committee, Makuilongdi- Zeliangrongpui Region proclaimed and declared the departed souls as "martyrs" .

Before the mortal remains were taken to Chawangkining, another condolence service was held at Senapati district headquarters.

Wreaths were laid on the four bodies and Naga Village Guard, Western Command gave a gun salute.

Timothy Wijunamai, president, Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) gave a brief account of the four victims.

Condolence speeches were delivered by the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Naga People's Organization (NPO), Naga Women's Union (NWU) and the United Naga Council (UNC) .
