Imphal, August 30 2026: CPI Manipur State Council has asserted that the State Assembly session scheduled to commence from September 2 should have more sittings so that the protracted violence and other burning issues of the State can be deliberated thoroughly.

Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI Manipur State Council spokesman RK Amusana said that Manipur has become lawless.

He said that the protracted violence and other burning issues demand threadbare deliberation in the State Assembly.

In order to discuss all these issues in detail, the upcoming Assembly session should have more sittings, he said.

People are of the view that the incumbent State Government is good at only obeying the dictates of the Centre.

The State Government seems to have forgotten that law and order is a State subject, Amusana said.

Contrary to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand's claim that peace is returning to the State, violence and killings have been going on unabated, he said.

It appears that the Chief Minister is preoccupied in keeping himself in the good books of Central leaders, he said.

Limiting the State Assembly session to just three days when myriad issues are plaguing the State is absurd.

The scheduled session is too short, it should have more sittings so that all the key issues can be discussed at length and appropriate resolutions can be adopted, Amusana said.

He also urged the State Government to adopt a resolution on the NRC and send it to the Centre.

The CPI spokesman also questioned the Government's failure to take decisive actions when Kuki militants have been killing innocent people and burning houses at will.
