Assn warns of protest over assault on scribe

Imphal, September 09 2021: Condemning the incident of assault on one Rahul Rai, reporter of a Kanglatongbi based online television channel, Association of Gorkha Artists' Manipur (AGAM and various Kanglatongbi organisations including Kanglatongbi Gorkha Youth Association, Bhartiya Gorkha Parishad-Manipur State Branch, Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union and Gorkha Students' Union along with several women's organisations have demanded the authority concerned to apprehend the person(s) responsible, failing which intense agitations would be launched.

Speaking to newspersons on Wednesday, Kanglatongbi Gorkha Youth Association president Shivkumar Basnet recounted that reporter Rahul Rai had gone to cover a meeting of the MGNRGA Committee of Khopi and Gorkha Harup villages under Kangpokpi PS on September 7 .

On his arrival, he was brutally beaten up by 7,8 youths.

When a complaint in this regard was made to Sekmai PS, the PS refused to accept the complaint stating that the incident happened outside its jurisdiction, he informed.

Condemning the assault of a media person, the president demanded the authority concerned to apprehend the person(s) responsible without further delay, and warned of launching intense democratic agitations in case of failing to do so.
