IDPs protest Govt's biases towards Kuki militants

Imphal, September 21 2026: A large number of IDPs and Meira Paibis today staged a protest demonstration against the Government's alleged unfairness in dealing with Meitei and Naga village volunteers vis-a-vis Kuki militants.

They alleged that while many Meitei and Naga village volunteers were arrested and charged under different sections of law, Kuki militants were released without applying any law.

The protest demonstration held on New Checkon road (near traffic point) was participated by a large number of IDPs and members of New Checkon Bazar Women Society Meira Paibi.

Speaking to the media, New Checkon Bazar Women Society Meira Paibi secretary Huidrom Malini said that the State Government's double-standard when it comes to dealing with Meitei and Naga village volunteers and Kuki militants is highly condemnable.

While many Meitei and Naga village volunteers were arrested and charged under different sections of law, Kuki militants were always given special treatment and let off, she said.

Six Kuki militants arrested by CRPF's CoBRA were released immediately after a security vehicle was set ablaze at Kangpokpi, Malini said before questioning the Government's double-standard.

The Government has gone silent on the question of resettling IDPs.

On the other hand, Kukis are being given a free hand to do whatever they wish, she said.

If there were no village volunteers, Kuki terrorists might have annihilated the Meitei and Naga communities, she said.

Malini said that the Government has been applying two different sets of laws for the hills and the valley.

She also warned the Government not to fan the people's anger.
