Imphal, September 20 2026: Noting that the JFD, 14 CSOs of Kangleipak and five organisations led by AMUCO have all been undertaking protest movements for the common objective of updating the NRC with 1951 as the base year, the Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL), Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) and many senior citizens have called upon all the CSOs to work collectively and ensure effective coordination.

Demanding updation of the NRC before the census with 1951 as the base year, UNAL and senior citizens staged a protest demonstration at Uripok Khaidem Leikai today.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, UAL president Soram Tikendrajit said that UAL, UNAL and senior citizens are staging the protest demonstration with a firm conviction that the collective demand for updating the NRC is legitimate and necessary.

Several CSOs, particularly JFD, 14 CSOs of Kangleipak and the five organisations led by AMUCO have been undertaking mass movements demanding updation of NRC before census with 1951 as the base year.

It appears that there is a lack of coordination among these CSOs.

Any lack of coordination will be detrimental to achieving the common objective, he said.

He appealed to all the CSOs to carry on the movement collectively and give up any intention of taking credits.

If the CSOs join hands and carry on the movement collectively, the movement will certainly fructify, Tikendrajit said.

Asserting that 1951 is the natural base year for updating the NRC for it was in 1951 that the NRC was compiled for the last time in the country, he said that any argument against adopting 1951 as the base year would be illogical.
