Imphal, November 03 2026:
A Naga police officer TP Kiukamlung, who is the Officer- in-charge of Machi police station in Tengnoupal was assaulted by a group of Kuki individuals at Motbung on October 30 last while travelling in uniform from Senapati to Imphal, said the Joint Tribes Council (JTC), Mani-pur, condemning the incident.
The JTC, in a press note, also alleged that his escort was intimidated by the same people and his official vehicle was vandalised.
The officer was stopped forcibly and separated from his escort, the Council said condemning the alleged assault.

He was later taken to Shija Hospital for treatment, it added.
This is a grave assault on the authority of the law and the institution of police, JTC said, urging the Government to conduct an immediate, impartial investigation into the alleged Motbung assault and prosecute all those involved.
The Council also urged the Government to ensure adequate security for Naga and Meitei civilians travelling through vulnerable areas, particularly along National Highways and guarantee unrestricted movement on highways and public roads with no armed groups or individuals allowed to control them.
Moreover, the JTC urged all concerned to end territorial intimidation and derogatory language against the Naga people and respect the "ancestral land and rights" of all indigenous communities.
Saying that the Nagas have no wish to live in hostility with any community and believe in peaceful coexistence, the JTC added that coexistence, however, cannot rest on unilateral tolerance of intimidation and aggression.
The Nagas will not accept being intimidated, displaced or reduced to refugees in their own homeland, it said and called upon the Government of India and the State Government to restore the rule of law.
Peace without justice is fragile and coexistence without mutual respect is unsustainable, it added.
JTC added that the attack on the Naga police officer shows an alarming breakdown of law and order.
The incident follows repeated attacks, abductions , killings, arson and intimidation of Naga and Meitei civilians, including the killing of three Meitei civilians at Sunurok Khongbal, the abduction and killing of six Liangmai men, the killing of Naga civilians along the IT Road and attacks on several Naga villages, it said.
The JTC also noted the alleged contradictions between the public projections of a peace-loving community and continuing violence, territorial intimidation and restriction on the movement of Naga and Meitei people along National Highways.
Saying that the Nagas are indigenous people of Manipur with ancestral territories and traditional rights which cannot be undermined by intimidation, violence or "artificial territorial claims", the JTC added that the continued use of derogatory expression such as "Kacha Nagas" most recently in a recent statement by MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing is regrettable.
A Constitutional office-holder is expected to uphold dignity and mutual respect, it said.
