State Govt must be held accountable : COCOMI

Imphal, September 21 2026: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that the State Government must bear responsibility for the UNC's ongoing indefinite economic blockade.

Even though the acts of narco-terrorism targeting indigenous communities unleashed since May 2023 have resulted in huge casualties, the Government of India and the State Government, instead of controlling, have been giving a free rein to the narco-terrorists.

As a result, all indigenous communities now harbour deep anguish and indignation against the Government.

It was the Government's failure to discharge its duties and responsibilities with fairness which forced the UNC to impose an indefinite economic blockade.

As such, the Government must be held accountable for the ongoing economic blockade, the COCOMI asserted in a press statement.

Even though there is video evidence of the cold blooded murder of Mayanglambam Rishikanta, the Government is still unable to deliver justice.

Likewise, the Government has not yet brought justice to the killing of two sleeping siblings at Tronglaobi, it said.

After undertaking sustained and widespread attacks against the Meitei community, killing a large number of innocent men women and children, and displacing tens of thousands of people, Naga people are being subjected to repeated acts of terrorism.

The killing of the six Naga hostages and dismembering their bodies in the most barbaric manner demonstrated that Kuki narco-terrorists do not have the slightest respect for law, COCOMI remarked.

Although the Government's leadership has been changed since May 3, 2026, the Government has been acting contrary to the people's collective interests, it alleged.

It asserted that no form of agitation can be called wrong or illegitimate when the Government fails to discharge its duties and responsibilities.

The Government must acknowledge that it was their failure to deliver justice in numerous cases of killing indigenous people which forced the people to call bandhs and blockades in search of justice, it said.

People are now enduring extreme hardship on account of the indefinite economic blockade but the State Government does not see the people's suffering as the State Government leaders are always preoccupied in obeying the commands of Delhi, COCOMI said.

Kuki narco-terrorists have been killing people at will and roaming freely with sophisticated arms, it said.

It went on to ask if any action has been initiated with regard to setting ablaze a security vehicle on September 20, 2026 .

It is a fact that there will be neither peace nor normalcy in Manipur until and unless the Kuki narco-terrorists are neutralised.

The Government must talk with the UNC and explore a solution.

If the Government chooses to overlook the UNC's agitation, it is only natural for the COCOMI to join the economic blockade directly.

If the State Government does not take up necessary steps at the earliest, it should bear responsibility for all the consequences which may unfold in the future, it added.
