Regional parties hold joint meet

Imphal, September 20 2026: Constituent parties of the Manipur Regional Political Parties Coordinating Committee (MRPPCC) held a joint meeting today at the Naoremthong office of PDA and deliberated on strengthening the committee.

The MRPPCC was formed on September 13 with the primary objective of facilitating consultation, coordination and cooperation among regional political parties.

The committee's constituent parties are People Democratic Alliance (PDA), People's Political Party (PPP), Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF) and Good Governance Party (GGP) .

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, MRPPCC chairman Khaidem Mani said that there is an urgent need for a regional political party which thoroughly understands the issues of the land and whose high command is the people of Manipur.

He said that politics can either protect or ruin a Nation.

In order to protect Manipur, there is an urgent need for a strong regional political party, he said.

Khaidem Mani also appealed to all sections of people to save Manipur from the hands of National parties which always work under the directives of their respective high commands.

Categorically saying that National parties which always wait for instructions or consent from their high commands can never protect Manipur, Khaidem Mani asserted that only regional parties can save Manipur.

He said that the regional parties have been demanding updation of the NRC with 1951 as the base year.

Pointing out that there are serious differences between Deputy Chief Ministers Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, he said that it's time to save Manipur from the incumbent BJP Government.

Saying that regional parties are governing several States including Mizoram, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, the MRPPCC chairman warned that Manipur cannot be saved if there are too many regional parties.

PDA president and former Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar said that the MRPPCC was formed with the primary objective of ensuring effective coordination and victory of regional parties in the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.

Joykumar said that constituent parties of the MRPPCC will field only those candidates who have the maximum prospect of winning the election and they will be supported by all the constituent parties.

He said the MRPPCC will focus on safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur and protecting its indigenous people.

Saying that the committee will pay extra attention to securing the National Highways, he said that they would work to abrogate the SoO agreement with Kuki militant groups in order to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

The MRPPCC will stand firm against any demand for separate administration, Joykumar said.

Even though the SoO ground rules say that strong action would be taken if the signatories violate the ground rules, the Government is unable to take any tangible action against the Kuki militants.

Notwithstanding all the efforts of the Government, the law and order situation remains quite volatile and the situation is not conducive enough for resettlement of IDPs, he said.

In view of the hardships endured by IDPs, the Government needs to rehabilitate them at suitable places and provide financial assistance to them under the Startup scheme, Joykumar said.

He asserted that sincerity on the part of both the State Government and the Central Government is a prerequisite for restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.

So far, the BJP Government has not taken any meaningful step toward restoring peace and normalcy, he said.
