Khoupum rally denounces violence

Imphal, September 21 2026: A joint peace rally organised by three civil society organisations-the Khoupum Area Villages Authority Council (KAVAC), Rongmei Luh Phwam Khoupum Area (RLPKA), and Zeliangrong Students' Union Khoupum Area (ZSUKA)-was held today with a strong appeal for peace, justice, communal harmony and an end to violence in Manipur.

The rally began from Gaidimjang Village, Khoupum Area, and proceeded towards Thanagong Ground, with people from different walks of life joining the peaceful march.

The gathering reflected a collective desire among the people for an end to violence and for the restoration of normalcy, peace and tranquillity across Manipur.

The programme began with a prayer led by Reverend Kagunai Gangmei, Pastor of Gaidimjang Baptist Church.

Organisers said the rally was taken out seeking peace, reconciliation and healing for the people affected by prolonged conflict and violence.

During the march, participants carried placards carrying messages including: "We stand for peace", "Restore peace in Manipur", "Justice delayed is justice denied", "We want communal harmony", and "Stop violence among brothers" .

The rally also called for justice for the six Zeliangrong Naga men who were killed after being abducted in May.

The rallyists demanded a fair, transparent and swift investigation into the case.

The organisers said that the rally conveyed a united message that violence cannot provide a solution to the problems confronting the people.

They appealed to all communities, civil society groups and stakeholders to reject violence, promote dialogue and work collectively towards reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
