Joint Khoupum Area CSOs hold peace rally

Noney, September 21 2026: Appealing for peace, justice, communal harmony and an end to violence in Manipur, a joint peace rally was held today in Gaidimjang Village, Khoupum Area.

The peace rally was organised by the Joint Khoupum Area Civil Society Organisations comprising the Khoupum Area Villages Authority Council (KAVAC), Rongmei Luh Phwam Khoupum Area (RLPKA), and Zeliangrong Students' Union Khoupum Area (ZSUKA).

The rally began from Gaidimjang Village, Khoupum Area, and proceeded towards Thanagong Ground, with people from different walks of life joining the peaceful march.

The gathering reflected a collective desire among the people for an end to violence and for the restoration of normalcy, peace and tranquillity in Manipur, said a press note by the Joint Khoupum Area CSOs.

The rally began with a prayer led by Reverend Kagunai Gangmei, Pastor of Gaidimjang Baptist Church seeking peace, reconciliation and healing for the people affected by prolonged conflict and violence.

In today's rally, the participants carried placards which read "We Stand for Peace", "Restore Peace in Manipur", "Justice Delayed is Justice Denied", "We Want Communal Harmony", "Stop Violence Among Brothers".

The rally conveyed a united message that violence cannot provide a lasting solution to the problems confronting the people.

The organisers appealed to all communities, civil society groups and stakeholders concerned to reject violence, promote dialogue and work collectively towards reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

The organisations called upon the State and Union Governments, as well as all communities and stakeholders concerned to take concrete and sincere steps towards restoring lasting peace and normalcy in Manipur.

In view of the violence among blood brothers, the rally strongly appealed for an immediate end to violence and factional conflict among people who share historical, social and cultural bonds.

The participants urged all groups concerned to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue instead of violence.

Demanding justice and accountability in connection with the brutal killing of six Zeliangrong Naga persons, the organisers called for a fair, transparent and timely investigation and appropriate legal action against the culprits.

Emphasising the importance of communal harmony, mutual respect, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence the organisers appealed for an environment in which every citizen can live without fear, irrespective of community or identity.
