MHRC to launch campaign for clean polls

Keeping in mind the assembly election, which is scheduled to be held in early part of next year; Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) is all set to launch a campaign for ensuring free and fair election.
Speaking to media persons in this regard at its Lamphelpat office oh Thursday, MHRC acting chairperson Khaidem Mani informed that the campaign will be participated by youth in particular and it will be conducted at several places so that voters could elect the right candidates, stop the practice of buying votes and make voters use their rights properly.
The campaign, which will be conducted on the theme 'People for Change' will be flagged of by organising cycle rallies and conducting awareness programmes at several places for two weeks.
Stating that the Commission will take up necessary initiatives for ensuring free and fair election, he regretted that taking undue advantage of Covid-19 pandemic situation, some social workers are eyeing to enhance their profile with an aim to contest the elections through distribution of edible items to the people.
In such a situation, MHRC is trying to protect'the rights of the voters, the acting chairman said, while adding that the Commission will also approach Election Comission of India for ensuring free and fair conduct of election.
Urging the people td use their voting right judiciously in the upcoming election, Khaidem Mani also exhorted hill based organisations to launch similar campaign so that voters could exercise their franchise without any fear and restraint.
