Police penalise COVID SOP violators

Imphal, September 09 2021:
Police Department continued to crack down on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the state government and State Disaster Management Authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic, including failure to wear mask, maintain social distancing and spitting in public places, etc., to prevent spread of COVID-19 virus in the state.
According to a release issued by Inspector General of Police (Ops) nodal officer for COVID-19 E Priyokumar Singh, 29 persons were detained and released later after warning and altogether a sum of Rs 4,250 was collected as fine during the drive on Thursday.
It also warned that those who violate the guidelines and restrictions shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
In Thoubal district, 27 violators were fined and an amount of Rs 3,450 was collected and 2 violators were fined in Kakching district, collecting a fine of Rs 800 on Tuesday.
The cumulative number of violators in the state stands at 1,56,039 with Thoubal district on top of the list at 70,408, Imphal West in second with 30,052 cases and Bishnupur third with 24,767 violators.
The cumulative amount of fine collected from the violators so far has reached Rs 2,57,53,910, the release informed.
