Imphal, September 09 2021:
Aspirant candidate from Keirao assembly constituency in the 2022 assembly election Yumnam Shanta has urged incumbent Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar to prove his sincerity in executing development works for the welfare of the people in the constituency.
Talking to media persons at his Kyamgei Hei-bong Makhong residence on Thursday, Shanta alleged that he was put into jail for three months after incumbent Keirao MLA framed him with various unfounded charges fearing defeat in the coming 2022 election.
It was very unfortunate for an elected representative like Rameshwar to make innocent people suffer by levelling unfounded charges, Shanta said and appealed to people of Keirao to forgive him for being unable to take up welfare work for them in time.
MLA Rameshwar's remark made to media about holding competition among aspirant candidates in Keirao AC on development is acceptable but it is impossible for the candidate aspirants to compete with incumbent MLA who receives funds for development works from state and Central governments, Shanta said and suggested that the MLA do the needful to justify his election.
While claiming that he utilised the entire government fund allocated to Kyamgei GP for the welfare of the people when he was the pradhan of the GP in 2002, Shanta suggested holding competition on how much of the total fund released by the government during five years of Rameshwar's tenure as MLA were utilised for the welfare of the people to the funds spent by him (Shanta).
There is no apprehension in conducting an investigation in this regard by forming a committee comprising two members each from his and Rameshwar's side, Shanta added.
According to Shanta, he has come out to contest election for the sake of many families living in Keirao AC who could not afford educational expenses for their children due to poverty.
Keirao AC has many paddy fields but none of the elected representatives from the AC in the past talked about providing proper irrigation facilities despite three rivers namely Imphal, Iril and Kongba rivers flowing through the constituency, he said and promised to take up proper irrigation facilities if elected in the 2022 election.
He also promised to utilise entire MLA local area development fund, as well as those provided under minor irrigation, CADA and MGNREGS for developing irrigation canal in the AC .
