Meira Paibee should not join politics: L Memchoubi

Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur celebrated its 37th Foundation Day at Khoyathong Pukhri Mapal community hall on Thursday.
The function was attended by Poirei Leimarol president Longjam Memchoubi, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani Chanu as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Memchoubi asserted that Manipuri women especially the Meira Paibee members will continue to stand for the society and the state till the end of their lives.
She then said that Meira Paibee play a key role in curbing the drug menace in the state and should refrain from joining politics so as to maintain the integrity of what it means to be a Meira Paibee.
Contending that the Meira Paibee cannot hold back until AFSPA, 1958 is completely revoked and peace is restored to the state, Memchoubi urged for maintaining the respect that other countries have of Manipuri women.
We are a small community and the women need to remember the role we play in deciding the fate of a state/nation, she said.
In his speech, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang said that the role by Meira Paibee of Manipuri is unique and different from the role played by women in other parts of the world.
The reason is that any movement or step taken by the Meira Paibee is for the sake of the state and community.
As such, mothers of the state, regardless of their age, have been proactive in their responsibilities as a Meira Paibee and if they did not exist, Manipur of today may never have existed.
Nando continued that Meira Paibee have been acting as the backbone in saving the future generations, Thus, people must assist in Meira Paibee activities in timely manner for the sake of securing the future Manipur, he exhorted.
