Thoubal, August 22 2021:
A combined team of BJYM Heirok and FPMC Heirok led by Heirok AC MLA Thokchom Radheshyam on Sunday commenced a social service programme at the historical Tengol Lampak of Khongjom.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Radheshyam reminded that Khongjom is an important historical site of the state, especially with regard to the Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891.Tengol Lampak is one of the locations connected with the war and had been declared as a "protected area" by the State Archaeological Department.
The MLA recounted that Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan, during his visit to the area on August 18, expressed dismay over the existing condition of the ground.
As such, in accordance with the wishes of the union minister, a social service programme was carried out on Sunday.
Pointing out that it is the responsibility of each one of us to maintain and preserve the sacred memorial sites of the state for the sake of future generations, Radheshyam said that this would serve as a mark of respect to the forefathers who laid down their lives for the land.
"It is touching to learn about the many nameless brave hearts buried at Tengol ground and also of the dilapidated condition of the memorial build at the site.
Thus, apart from the site being deemed as protected site, it is imperative to keep the area clean throughout the year", he asserted.
The MLA then assured of consulting with the Chief Minister, the local MLAs and department concerned for development of the area and sought cooperation from the people, particularly the local clubs, in this regard.
