Imphal, August 22 2021:
Hung Sidaba Lainingkol (Trust) has drawn the attention of the government and the two MPs to resolve the Indo-Myanmar territorial dispute before continuing with the border fencing, while also urging for halting BRTF from carrying out the fencing work near the disputed Indo-Myanmar border pillar no 81.In a statement, the Trust questioned whether BRTF has obtained permission from the people of Manipur before commencement of fencing works along the disputed border pillar no.81 of the Indo-Myanmar border belt.
It further questioned if BRTF had sought appropriate permission from the government.
The disputed border pillar was inspected by a 3-member team of surveyor general of India on July 25, 2018.At that time, many local CSOs and political parties had informed the team that the pillar was dismantled and shifted further into Manipur's territory.
On top of this, there was the issue of a sub pillar being installed inside the state's territory in 2018.The matter remains unresolved even after 3 years.
Thus, the people of Manipur will not tolerate BRTF's attempts to erect fencing in the area without prior permission.
Clarifying that the demand is not meant to stand against any development projects, the Trust appealed to all concerned to resolve the border issue as clearly as possible.
It further drew the attention of the state government and the two state MPs to look into the matter.
