Candidates bat for uplift of Tamenglong constituency

As Tamenglong denizens wait eagerly to cast their votes in the second phase election for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on March 5, four candidates in fray for the seat of Tamenglong (ST) assembly constituency shared their vision and policies for the constituency, state and purpose for contesting the polls.
Huri Golmei, a first timer, will be contesting on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket; former MIA Samuel Jendai on Janata Dal (United) ticket; Khangthuanang, also a former MIA on Naga People's Front (NPF) ticket; and another former MLA Janghemlung Panmei as a nominee of National People's Party (NPP).
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, the candidates expressed firm resolve to remove the 'most backward district' tag through developmental projects if elected as the people's representative.
Huri Golmei, a retired bureaucrat, assured to prioritise connectivity with focus on proper maintenance of major roads in the town, streamline the education system, set up engineering and BEd colleges, and technical institutions.
His other area of focus would be to improve power supply in the district, which the candidate opined is the main reason for underdevelopment of Tamenglong.
Samuel Jendai too stressed the need for ensuring that the denizens have access to better road connectivity, regular supply of electricity and water supply, and employment opportunities, especially the youth.
He also assured to contribute his mite towards fulfilling the people's aspiration regarding the ADC and delimitation issues.
Meanwhile, Khangthuanang said his priority would be political autonomy of the Nagas, uphold tribal rights and instil sense of security to the people.
On developmental vision, he pledged better communication network, education system and provide income generation avenues.
According to NPP's Janghemlung improving the education system in the district will be his priority.
He also vowed to work for socio-economic uplift of the denizens by extending incentives and launching schemes for women's empowerment.
Noting that healthcare sector in the district is bereft of manpower, infrastructure and other basic requirements, he said there would be no compromise on infrastructural development projects in the district.
