Imphal, March 03 2022:
Regarding the seizure of 34 kg of opium from a Toyota Fortuner (MN06 LA 3456), which reportedly belonged to Keishamthong AC MLA L Jayantakumar, from Khurai Ningthoubung by an NAB team on Wednesday; the MLA has clarified that he had sold off the vehicle to one Salam Khelen of Khurai Kongpal Chingabam Leikai on February 12, and so the seizure of opium from the vehicle has nothing to do with him.
Addressing a press meet at his Pishumthong residence on Thursday morning, Jayantakumar admitted that the seized vehicle is still in his name.
However, it was sold off to one Salam Khelen of Khurai Kongpal Chingabam Leikai on February 12.As the name change under the Transport Department is yet to be done, it made it seems like he was involved in the drug bust, considering the vehicle is still in his name.
The most unfortunate thing was the usage of the small hole in front of the vehicle, initially used by him for mounting a mini flag post.
The flag mounted at the time of seizure could have easily been bought from the market.
Jayantakumar then presented the sale deed, transfer of ownership papers signed by the oath commissioner and other relevant affidavits to newspersons.
Urging the transport department to expedite the process of changing the name, the MLA said that such incidents could put innocent vehicle owners into serious trouble.
On the other hand, Salam Khelen himself had clarified that the Fortuner did not have any connection with the MLA and admitted that he purchased the vehicle from the latter on February 12.The name-changing process was delayed due to the busy schedule of the transport department owing to the ongoing elections, he added.
