Poll violence continues unabated

There is no sign of de-escalation of poll violence in Manipur as incidents like lobbing of petrol bomb, firing and vandalisation of vehicles and houses were reported from Kakching and Thoubal districts yesterday.
At Kakching Khunou Ningthou Leikai, 12 vehicles including four 4-wheelers belonging to Congress supporters were reportedly damaged by miscreants last night at around 10.30 using heavy objects.
According to a report culled from the spot, a heated argument broke out between supporters of BJP and Congress last night at Kakching Khunou Thingnam Ningthou Leikai.
The damaged vehicles include Honda Activa (7), Yamaha R-15 Bike (1), Mahindra Bolero (1), Hyundai Santro (1) and a Maruti Gypsy.

Speaking about the incident, Congress candidate MLA K Ranjit stated that the trust of the people can never be won through violence or any other unfair means.
It is rather embarrassing that certain people have been resorting to violence even by going to the extent of killing to win election, the MLA said and urged all electors to exercise their franchise wisely so as to put an end to all forms of violence.
Meanwhile, the BJP Election Women Committee claimed that Congress supporters fired some rounds first.
In other incidents of violence, unknown miscreants pelted stones and fired at five houses in Wangjing Tentha Constituency yesterday at around 11.30 pm.
The victims of the attack are Salam Tomba from Wangjing Canteen, Yumnam Mahendra Kumar from Wangjing SK Leikai, Moirangthem Inaotombi from Wangjing Bazar, RK Manisana from Wangjing Heituppokpi and Kh Manichandra from Wangjing SK Leikai.
Shortly later, a protest was staged accusing BJP workers for the attack.
The protesters urged the authority concerned to arrest all the culprits at the earliest.
On the other hand, some unknown assailants reportedly lobbed a petrol bomb at the house of Naorem Jitendra at Tentha Khongban in Wangjing Tentha AC today at around 2.30 am.
No one was injured in the attack other than inflicting minor damage to the house.
It is reported that the wife of N Jitendra, Naorem Chaobiyaima is a secretary of 34/4 BJP Women Committee.
