Held for damaging EVM

Churachandpur, March 03 2022:
Churachandpur police arrested one person namely Onjalal Kipgen of K Phaijang on March 1 for damaging an EVM at Leinom Polling Station in Henglep Constituency.
He was the polling agent for 57/49-Leinom Polling Station.
As per the FIR registered at district police, Churachandpur, the EVM allotted to Leinom Polling Station was damaged at about 3.45 pm in the first phase of election on February 28 .
The district police arrested the polling agent from B Aijalon area in Churachandpur district.
It may be mentioned that such an offence is in contravention of Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, Section 171-C, Section 427 and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to five years and with fine.
In another incident, Kangpokpi police arrested another person on the charge of damaging a VVPAT machine at Leplen Polling Station in Saikul AC on the day of polling.
The arrested person has been identified as Manggoulun Haolai (19), S/o (L) Lammang Haolai of Mollen Kamsei village, Ukhrul district.
He was arrested as per a complaint lodged by Returning Officer of 46-Saikul AC Bungba Maibam Khuman.
